INCRIMINATING MARY

NARRATIVE | SHORT FILM

BACKGROUND

Incriminating Mary follows crime journalist Aidan Blackwood, who's convinced his wife has been framed for murder. Evading the police, he retraces her steps and uncovers a web of secrets tied to her alter ego, Marilyn Monroe, unravelling a mystery that could clear her name or destroy them both. I wrote and directed the film. It won Best Crime Short and Best Director at the Tagore International Film Festival.

IDEA

Incriminating Mary grew out of watching old Marilyn Monroe films and reading about her double life, the gap between Norma Jeane and the persona of Marilyn Monroe. That gap became the film's central idea, a character with dissociative identity disorder who commits murder as her Marilyn Monroe, her alter ego, without no knowledge of what she's done. The film is a neo-noir, and it's shot entirely from Aidan's point of view as he investigates a case where the person he's protecting is also, unknowingly to them both, the person responsible.
